About this painting Karen says, "Haleakala is a truly magical place, and as soon as I saw the crater I knew I needed to paint it. This view is the first in a series of paintings I intend to do. The fact that Mark Twain was deeply moved by his visit to Haleakala (he claimed the crater to be his everlasting daydream) indicated to me that there is a very special aura present there which I hope to capture."

Maui Rain

"Early one morning while taking photographs in the Tedeschi Winery vineyards I noticed some lovely patterns of light and color being created by water drops from the rain showers clinging to the tall grasses and catching the rays of sunlight. This painting blends several images from that one morning into one representation of Nature's prisms and spheres of light."
